Classical Conversations
By Charlotte Cushman | February 6, 2010
From Kristin Bigalke:
We have 3 SC families who are currently part of our group.
Our group will be having Open Houses throughout the months of February and March for anyone interested in homeschooling using the Christian classical method. The dates may be found on the Classical Conversations website Event Calendar at http://www.classicalconversations.com/. The Event Calendar button is on the upper right hand corner of the home page. We would be honored if you could mention this opportunity for families in the area on your website or through your weekly emails.
Learn how the Classical Conversations of Savannah community can help equip, encourage, and support parents in their homeschooling endeavors. Join us at 9:00 a.m. for a short explanation of the Classical Method of Education as well as a brief overview of Classical Conversations. At 9:15 am, we have our opening ceremony and dismiss for classes at 9:30 am. During our morning class time we learn & review information from English Grammar, Geography, History, Latin, Science and Math and an entire history timeline from a Biblical perspective. Enjoy watching the class presentations, hands-on science experiments, and Fine Arts sessions of our Foundations programs. We do eat lunch together, so pack a lunch if you would like to join us.
Hear and observe our Essentials program from 1-3pm. This is when our 3rd – 6th graders learn grammar, writing and reinforce math facts through various activities.
Reservations are required to ensure enough space is available. We meet on Tuesday in Effingham county. The following dates are available for reservation: February 9, 23, March 2, 9, 16, 23.

Transcripts Now Required 10th -12th Grades
By Charlotte Cushman | February 6, 2010
From Deb Forschner:
PLEASE NOTE SOME IMPORTANT CHANGES TO REQUIREMENTS FOR MEMBERS OF CBCCA: The qualifying requirements for the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship have changed. One of the determining requirements (GPA-based class rank) has now been expanded to include the 10th, 11th and 12th grades. Therefore, in order to determine class rank, we will now be requiring transcripts for all students in those grades.
We don’t want this transcript requirement to be an added burden so we’ll be happy to provide answers to any questions you might have. The CBCCA Handbook has a sample transcript and it addresses what courses and grades are allowed which designation (i.e. Honors, Dual Credit, etc.), as well as the weighted numeric value (per the Grade Point Conversion Chart according to the S.C. Uniform Grading Schedule that must be followed) and allowable credit per course. We will be holding an informational meeting for parents that will address transcript preparation (date and time to follow).
If you start with the transcript in 10th grade, it will make the whole process easier. Also, a very important factor in calculating GPA and class rank will be the dual credit values that are designated to courses taken at TCL, USC, etc. This is not a policy set by CBCCA but rather one set by the state of South Carolina. Thus, you need to take this into consideration as you set your student’s courses.
If you have any questions, please email me at deb@wagp.net. Also, we’ll be updating you on some other exciting new policies that will help to keep our students competitive for scholarships, college acceptance, etc.
I look forward to working with you.
